Building the Future, One Leader at a Time

Welcome to the very first edition of Foundational Focus! This newsletter is specifically tailored for you: The high-potential employee that is eager to step into a leadership role within your organization. It’s also, at least a little bit, for you: The leader unsure of how to relate to and develop the next generation of leadership.

I started my journey in construction about 6 years ago at the age of 20. I was back in my hometown after trying the college thing and having no clue where to go next. I fell into a job in construction, and quickly realized that I really like it. The only thing that I continuously wished for was a resource to help get me to the next level in my career. I wanted to talk to someone who has been in my shoes, who has the same drive to continuously improve, and can relate to where I’m at. Thankfully, I found some great resources and had some amazing mentors to help guide me. And now, it’s my turn to do the same for the next generation. I am now on a mission to help revolutionize the building industry, and what better place to start than with the next generation of leaders!

The mission of this newsletter is simple: I am dedicated to building the foundation for the future of your construction business by being a resource for the next generation of leaders. Throughout this newsletter, I aim to cover a variety of topics ranging from practical advice, stories from my personal experience in the industry, and how to build a personal brand as a high-potential employee in your company.

First things first, I should clarify, what is a high-potential employee? A high-potential employee is someone who stands out from the crowd. The person who not only does exceptional work, but also cares deeply about the work that they do. They care for their personal reputation while also keeping the reputation of the business in mind. The high-potential employee is someone who desires more. More responsibility, more ideas, more risks, and most of all, more knowledge. The construction industry needs young, high-potential employees to continue thriving in the next few decades. Without new people willing to step in and take over the leadership reins, what will happen to the industry? In short, nothing good.

You may be thinking to yourself, I am not a high-potential employee. And right now, you may not be. And that’s okay! That’s what this newsletter is for. To guide, to motivate, and to educate.

As we embark on this journey together, remember that every great leader started where you are now—wondering, learning, and driven to make a difference. Whether you’re just beginning your career or guiding others from the top, the foundation you build today will shape the future of the construction industry tomorrow.

Thank you for being part of this first step toward a stronger, more innovative future. Keep pushing boundaries, keep learning, and keep building.
